Lets explore these transformative concepts together:
We will practice through movement, stillness, silence, meditation, painting, walking, reading, and discussion. There are many opportunities for practice, but nothing is required. This is your retreat. Take this time to be with yourself and practice getting in touch with noticing your thoughts and aligning your dreams. This retreat is appropriate for both beginning and experienced yoga and meditation students. This retreat is located in an Las Gaviotas, Mexico, a lovely vacation home community located on the ocean, between Rosarito and Ensenada, just a 30 minute drive from the border with San Diego. You have the option to carpool with other participants from the exit before the border. Further, the painting workshop allows you to explore the concept of waves through movement, color, value, form, unity, and texture. You are welcome to read this book, Ride the Wave: Journey from the Inside Out, beforehand or savor it for the retreat. The sooner you send me your Booking Agreement and address, the sooner I will send you the book. |
Ride the Wave: Journey from the Inside Out"In Ride the Wave: Journey from the Inside Out, licensed social worker and life coach Aviva Barnett invites readers to take a close look at something most people don’t consider: how their mind works. Barnett’s friendly tone draws the reader into her book, which begins with her own journey from “living in annoyance and irritation” to a sense of inner peace and connection.
If everyone possesses psychological health, what makes people feel stressed, anxious or depressed? Barnett says that our experience of life comes via our thinking. Thoughts then lead to feelings, which in turn affect the experience of whatever circumstance is in front of us. That, in turn, shapes behavior. Therefore, life is happening from the inside-out. This idea runs contrary to what we have been trained by society, Barnett writes. Mainstream society’s “outside-in” approach assumes our circumstances shape our experiences of life. Expressions such as, “You are making me crazy!” and “It’s your fault!” illustrate this way of thinking, which make a person, in essence, the victim of his circumstances. Barnett guides the reader step-by-step through profound ideas in a way that is simple to grasp. Using the metaphor of ocean waves, she describes the nature of thought: just as waves rise and fall, so too our thoughts. Barnett analyzes the nature of thought (not what we think, but the ability to think) as a flowing river. " Learn More... |
Las Gaviotas Community
Las Gaviotas provides an increadible international beach vacation getaway. This is the perfect location with a dry, warm climate and only 30 minutes from San Diego. We enjoy excellent surf all year and feel very secure in this gated, guarded community.
Nearby Rosarito Beach abounds with Spanish architecture and a coastline comprised of natural cliffs that jut over tide pools teeming with marine life.
The Endless Summer Villa is perfect for a crowd—whether you’re part of a multigenerational family reunion or a pack of surfers on a getaway (it’s just 45 minutes from downtown San Diego to our front door, and to one of the best surf breaks around). The villa gives you the space to sprawl out, plus all the toys you need to enjoy the Baja coast, which stretches endlessly in front of our home.
The living spaces all have views of the Pacific and the lofty palm trees that line the coast.
This is the only home in Las Gaviotas with a dinning room table that seats 10 and a garage full of kayaks, surfboards and bicycles.
Sun worshipers enjoy taking in the sun and the view on the huge balcony. Those looking for pure relaxation enjoy sitting on the decks or on the beach. Families love the community feeling and the security and kids love the beach and the pool.

How to Get There
Driving Directions From the US
Take either Interstate 5 or Interstate 805 south towards the Mexico border.
Make sure you exit the freeway at Via San Ysidro, about one mile before the border, for Mexican auto insurance. A a minimum you will need liability.
As you cross the border you may be directed to a customs inspection area. Don’t be nervous. This is done at random. Just wind down the windows and let the official take a peek. They might want a look inside the trunk. This is quite normal. When they are satisfied that you have no guns or drugs in your car, they will wave you through.
Take the signs that say Rosarito/Ensenada Scenic Route.
Wind along 6 1/2 miles of road and you will come to the first toll booth where you will need to pay approximately (US) $2.30. This is a great road and well worth the bucks. 15 miles from that toll is another toll. There is a large Pemex gas station and 7/11 store in case you need gas or refreshments just prior to the toll booth.
8 short miles later you will come to an exit that says “Puerto Nuevo/Calafia.” Turn right so you are now heading north (the way you’ve come from) and drive for about one mile. You will see the entrance to Las Gaviotas on your left and White Horse grocery store on your right. Tell the security guards at the gate who you are and that you will be staying at “Endless Summer Villa/18 Pelicanos Oeste.”
Turn right at the second street from the entrance. The home is the 8th house on the right.

Reviews of Julian Retreat with Hannah Faulkner:
Finding Balance Retreat⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This retreat was more fulfilling than expected. Activities were full of themes of self-love, unburdening addictions, maintaining a peaceful mindset that radiates positivity, and awareness of strengths and areas of self-growth. I especially appreciated the mantra shared and the morning meditation and yoga, as that was a new practice for me. The gentle yoga in the evening was original and creatively themed to match topics of discussion and Hannah has a beautiful calming presentation. The meals were also a highlight- healthy, hearty, and nutritious meals prepared by a private chef. I am thankful to have been a part of this weekend, as I have walked away in a better version of myself. I look forward to the opportunity to do this again.

I felt very well received and calm with this group of women. Any anxiety that I had quickly disappeared. Hannah is calm and a natural at guiding in yoga and meditation. The music was perfect, calming and well thought out. Sounds that evoked positive experiences and memories. The food was excellent, nourishing and tasty. I generally feel blessed and glad I decided on attending the retreat. I am able to go forth in life with healing and being more confident in decision making.

Hannah, thank you for being an inspiration! You emanate such a radiance of joy, despite the weather being rainy and gloomy, representing all of the turmoil that we face in life. I loved your original yoga sequences and story telling. Thanks for introducing me to this book and to Dr. Wayne Dyer- lots of these positive messages really resonated with me. I thoroughly enjoyed the quality time with compassionate and intelligent women. This is just what I needed. I live with 3 boys and really benefited from this balance. The location was beatuiful and serene. I loved the frequency of yoga and meditation. I descovered a new hobby as I stretched out of my element with drawing succulants and painting them in watercolor. It really tested my self-esteem and patience, but I got great results. The food was definitely a highlight: colorful, tasty, healthy, and best of all- made with love <3.

I want to extend my sincere thanks and admiration to Hannah for creating and organizing such a wonderful Art & Yoga retreat in Julian this April. I spent the weekend drawing and painting in a meditative way, doing yoga combined with travel and adventure themes drawn from Hannah's own travels across Europe, and participating in and listening to group discussion around the gem of a Wayne Dyer Book 'Being in Balance'. I connected with a beautifully positive and loving group; I learned many things from each person and all their wisdom and humility. We connected while walking and hiking in the Superb natural environment of Julian and over meals that were out of this world tasty and super nutritious, cooked by the very talented chef Katie. We meditated and followed guided visualizations that supported our dreams and potential with themes of inner peace and joy, Hannah's voice and spirit all the while soothing and uplifting. The weekend was seamless and so well organised. It was a weekend full of treasures and blessings that filled my heart; I made some wonderful connections and friends on this short retreat, and I also feel healthier and fitter!

The retreat with Hannah from Half Moon Yoga and Art was such a nice time. Hannah's yoga was fun and the themes provided an interesting and entertaining time. the structured schedule was appropriate and worked well. The food was amazing- delicious and perfectly time! I felt taken care of and peaceful. I enjoyed the continuity of the balance theme throughout, using the book with the yoga, meditations, and circle discussion time all with the theme tied together. The painting and coloring added an additional fun and meditative element. the group of people were great too- friendly and open. Overall a great retreat!
